Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Categoricals
(CLS IN DESIGNATED CATEGORIES: Chemistry, Hematology, Immunohematology and Microbiology)
To be eligible for the CLS Categorical Examinations, applicants must:
ROUTE 1
Satisfy eligibility requirements for admission to the CLS Generalist Examination through either Route 1 or 2.
ROUTE 2
Have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
AND
complete 36 semester hours in the biological, chemical and/or medical sciences (in addition to or part of the baccalaureate degree),
AND
Successfully complete a categorical discipline of a NAACLS accredited educational program in clinical laboratory science (medical technology or equivalent) including both an academic and a clinical component.
ROUTE 3
Have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
AND
complete 36 semester hours in the biological, chemical and/or medical sciences (in addition to or part of the baccalaureate degree),
AND
Complete the equivalent of six months of full-time clinical laboratory work experience within the last two years in the category in which certification is desired.
NOTE: For information regarding the content of the categorical examinations, refer to the technical sections of the CLS generalist outline. Please note that all categorical candidates must complete the “Laboratory Practice” section of the examination.
