Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)
To be eligible for the CLS Examination, applicants must:
ROUTE 1
Have a baccalaureate degree in clinical laboratory science (medical technology or equivalent) from an accredited college or university
AND
successfully complete a NAACLS-accredited educational program in clinical laboratory science (medical technology or the equivalent).
ROUTE 2
Have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
AND
complete 36 semester hours in the biological, chemical and/or medical sciences (in addition to or part of the baccalaureate degree),
AND
Successfully complete a NAACLS-accredited program in clinical laboratory science (in medical technology or equivalent).
ROUTE 3
Be certified as a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) or the equivalent,
AND
Have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
AND
complete 36 semester hours in the biological, chemical and/or medical sciences (in addition to or part of the baccalaureate degree),
AND
Complete the equivalent of two years of full-time clinical laboratory work experience within the last four years. This experience must have included a minimum of four months in each of the four major disciplines of clinical laboratory practice (chemistry/urinalysis, hematology, immunohematology and microbiology).
ROUTE 4
Have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university AND complete 36 semester hours in the biological, chemical and/or medical sciences (in addition to or part of the baccalaureate degree),
AND
Complete the equivalent of four years of full-time clinical laboratory work experience within the last eight years. This experience must have included a minimum of four months in each of the four major disciplines of clinical laboratory practice (chemistry/urinalysis, hematology, immunohematology and microbiology).
